Maintenance of vibratory hammers: the do’s and don’ts

Just like any machine, a vibratory hammer needs maintenance. Without the proper care your equipment gets damaged and in the worst case scenario even shuts down. You can prevent a lot of trouble relatively easy by just reading the manual. Knowledge of your machine is very important, so invest time to get to know your product. This blog is all about the do’s and don’ts concerning the maintenance of vibratory hammers.

If you don’t take good care of your vibratory hammer it will result in high repair costs. The most common problem is that the maintenance is carried out too late or is performed in a bad way.

A lot of problems are caused due to late maintenance. You can prevent that by listening to your machine and act directly when hearing a disturbing noise. Call your dealer and don’t ignore it.

Read the manual

Another big problem is the fact that a lot of people don’t read manuals. It’s so important to know how your machine works and what you have to do in case of emergency.

Stickers on the machine tell you what you need to do to keep the vibratory hammer in the best shape it can be. It’s not uncommon the management team buys a machine and puts the manual in their desk. The employees who have to work with the machine never get to see the manual and don’t know how to use it. In such cases you might end up with workers on the job site using the wrong oil. You can avoid that situation by reading the manual, so you know which oil to use.

Use synthetic oil

Because vibratory hammers create a lot of heat, you have to use a synthetic oil to make sure the joints of the machine are greased in well. That oil is resistant to high temperatures and doesn’t dry out soon, in comparison to other types of oil.

Ignorance isn’t always the reason the wrong oil is used. Sometimes people want to buy the cheapest oil to save money. You’ll save a bit of money in the beginning, but if you use the wrong products you’ll damage the machine. The money you’ll save on oil doesn’t cover the repair costs. You simply can’t use an ordinary type of oil when greasing a vibratory hammer.

Contact the dealer

Truth to be told: It can be difficult to get your hands on the right oil, but there are alternatives. Contact your official dealer. He can advise you which oil type you can use to take care of your vibratory hammers.

Sometimes reading the manual isn’t enough. So it’s a great idea to hire a service team that checks your equipment on a regular base. You can compare it with the MOT test for your car. This check up is a great way to prevent a lot of trouble. It’s not a cheap affair, but it’ll save you money in the long run. If your machine shuts down during a project thanks to bad maintenance, you lose time and money.

Do yourself a favor and don’t let bad maintenance let you down. You can prevent a lot of problem just by reading the manual. For more information you can always contact us to help out!
